NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD
Some Adjudicators Appointed
Mr. F. Wentworth Slater, o£ Wanganui, has been appointed principal musical adjudicator to the National Eisteddfod to be held in Wellington during the public school holidays ,in May next. ■ Mr. Claude Haydon is also to be one of the judges'of music. Mr. Kenneth McLennan, late secretary of the Competitions Society, who is organising the eisteddfod, has covered a good deal of territory ,in New Zealand during the past month, and considers that there is a decided advantage to be gained by holding the competitions early In the year, rather than during the second term holidays. School teachers, he says, generally hold that if there are to be competitions, for the children it Is wiser to get them over early, so that the children may be able to settle down seriously to their work during the latter half of rhe year. It is expected that the new society will be registered as an incorporated society within the next few days, after which an announcement will be made as to'those who are to be concerned in the first New Zealand National Eisteddfod. One of the features the organiser hopes to arrange is a big choir contest. A special attraction is to be the performance of a choir of 250 voices from Wanganui, conducted by Mr. Slater, whois director of the Wanganui Male Voice Choir and the Choral Society. This choir is already in -practice, and by next May Mr. Slater is confident that it will be the finest organisation of its kind in New Zealand.
