RED CROSS AFFAIRS

Meetings at Paekakariki

A visit was paid to Paekakariki recently by Sister Lewis and Mr. M. S. Galloway with the object of forming a sub-centre of the "Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society (Inc.). They were met by Nurse Hodder and Miss Fraser at "the station, and on their visit to the school by Mr. J. Brown, the headmaster. Standards IV. V and VI were addressed, and it was decided to form a Junior Red Cross circle.

At 7 o'clock a public meeting was held at the picture theatre, presided over by Mr. Brown and attended by about 50 people, when an address on the origin and history of the Red Cross, illustrated by lantern slides, was given by Mr. Galloway. Sister Lewis also spoke. At the conclusion it was resolved to form a sub-centre of the (N.Z.) Red Cross Society (Inc.), aud the following officers were elected: — President. Mr. J. Brown; committee, Mesdames Barnett, Crawley. Holton. Pepperell. H. Smith", D. Smith. J. Smith. Misses Hodder. N.Z.R.N. Cotnrie. Holton, aud Messrs. Mac Kay and H. Smith; joint Secretaries arid treasurers. Mrs. Parr and Miss Edith Fraser: Sub-committees. Nursing Divi slon and Training, Sister Hoddet. Mrs. Barnett: clothes cupboard, Mesdames Crawley and Holton; Braille and blind entertainment. Mrs. Carr and Miss E. Fraser.

Arrangements are well in hand for the fair to be held by the "Wellington centre from December 6 to 8, aud for a street day on January 31.
