WELLINGTON PLUNKET SOCIETY
New President Elected
At a meeting of the executive of the "Wellington I’lunket Society, which took place yesterday afternoon, Miss Ethel Cameron was elected president in place of Mrs. Tythe Brown, whose resignation was received recently.
Miss Cameron joined the Wellington committee as honorary secretary in 1920, retaining office till November, 1922, when Miss Elsmie "Ward was appointed. Since then Miss Cameron has been an active member of the executive. She has always been a marvellous worker, with a whole-hearted interest in the Plunket cause in "Wellington. "With Lady Hosking, Miss Cameron was responsible for the development of the present system of sub-branches, on which has depended so much of the growth of the "Wellington organisation, and its wide-reaching power for good. They personally canvassed the houses in the suburbs, and the committees were set up under their supervision. She was also one of those who, recognising the necessity for a training school and baby hospital in "Wellington, was largely instrumental in the efforts to raise money for its erection. The furnishing of the building was left entirely in the hands of Mrs. George Nathan and Miss Cameron by the committee, and to them the charming interior decorations of the Truby King Karitane Hospital at Melrose are due. Miss Cameron lives with her sister, Mrs. IV. Clayton, Woburn Road. Lower Hutt. News of her election to the presidency has been greeted with feelings of general congratulation by the Wellington Plunket Society.
