An unofficial ebeck of the positions in the centenary handicap race reveals that Scott will probably have the shortest time after deductins handicaps, bur as he is eligible to receive only the one prize. Parmentier is likely to be first in the handicap event. Turner will then lie second in the speed race, and Waller third. An announcement of the handicap result will be made to-morrow. HANSEN EIGHTH Arrival at Melbourne WHITE REACHES SYDNEY (Received November 1. 10.50 p.m.) Melbourne, November 1. Hansen and Jensen, who arrived this morning, take eighth place in the race. They intend to remain for 10 days, and fly back to Copenhagen. The New Zealand aviator. S. G. White, arrived at Sydney this afternoon on the completion of a tourist flight from London.

KINGSFORD SMITH * : —— Preparations for Final Stage. PLANE IN GOOD ORDER Honolulu, October 31. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith has set noon on Thursday for the take-off from Wheeler Field for the final stage of his flight to Oakland. After a test flight he found his aeroplane in good shape. The weather reports are favourable. The storm area near the coast is moving north, and there may be good weather within a few hours. The United States Coastguard Weather Bureau is preparing aid by sending reports from all ship oil the coast. Sir Charles plans to flv at 170 miles an hour during daylight, throttling down to 130 milese an hour at nightfall, and going up 12,000 feet. He is practising on a ukulele, which he bought to-day, saying that he would play it to keep Captain Taylor from going to sleep as he did ou the/way from Suva.

On arrival at Wheeler Field Captain Taylor lost his war-time helmet, which he wears for good hick. The army ordered a search of the whole reservation. and found the helmet to-dny, much to Captain Taylor’s relief.

BOUND FOR LONDON Waller Leaves Athens » (Received November 1, 10.50 p.m.) Athens, November 1. .Tones and Waller, bound from Bagdad to London, landed at 3.26 p.m. yesterday. They stayed the night owing to reports of bad weather over Italy and left for London at 5.25 a.m. to-day. The flight Is proving a -trying ordeal. They have covered 10,000 miles at an average speed of IS2 miles an hour. BACK TO HOLLAND Parmentier and Moll Leave Melbourne, November 1. Parmentier and Moll, in the Douglas air-liner, left this morning for Holland, circling over Albury as an expression of appreciation of the assistance rendered by the inhabitants on the night of the storm into which the plane ran on its way south. IDEA ABANDONED Air Race Across Tasman By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, November 1. yl’lie idea of an air race across the Tasman was abandoned altogether at a public meeting called to-day by the Deputy-Mayor, the Rev. J. K. Archer. The meeting was opposed to the suggestion that guarantees should be given to pilots considering a tour of the Dominion, and considerable resentment was expressed at the remarks of the president of the New Zealand Aero Club, Mr. G. M. Spence, who had doubted the safety of the race. The meeting was attended by only 12 persons, who included officials of the Canterbury Aero Club and prominent pilots. MOLLISONS GOING HOME (Received November 1, 10.50 p.m.) Allahabad, November 1. The Mollisons took off for Karachi at 0.55 a.m.-G.M.T.
