MELBOURNE BOUND

Maheno Sails a Full Ship By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, October 31. There were animated scenes at Bluff to-night when the Maheno sailed for Melbourne with a full complement of passengers, marking a revival of the South Island-Melbourne passenger service, which was suspended in January, 1931.

The weather was calm and summery, and it is estimated that 2000 were on the wharf to give the tourists a hearty send off. A special train of 15 crowded carriages went to Bluff from Invercargill, and about 250 ears also visited tlie port, which bore a gala appearance. There was no dearth of lively music, and it must be many years since scenes of such enthusiasm have been witnessed at Southland’s port.
