LAKE TAUPO TROUT
Opening of Season Yesterday \ _ ~ . EXCELLENT FISHING Dominion Special Service. Tokaanu, November 1. The Tongariro River, Tokaanu, and Lake Taupo fishing season opened promptly at 4 a.m. this morning with many a keen angler awaiting impatiently the opportunity of renewing his skill with rod and line. A beautiful spring morning with ideal conditions for trout fishing greeted every angler.
The past was an exceptionally good one for the Taupo trout, wtih ample rains, resulting in the river and lake conditions being excellent. Many anglers from near and far are present, and over the week-end there will be a big influx. « Anglers generally report better conditioned fish for the opening -date, and prospects appear excellent for the ensuing season., One prominent angler landed 15 nice fish before breakfast, the largest turning the scales at 71b. The best sport secured was certainly at the Tongariro River mouths, particularly at Asher’s Delta Camp rips, where it is intended that the Duke of Gloucester and party will spend most of the fishing vacation while here.
There, is heavy overseas booking as the result of the Melbourne centenary. A pleasing indication is the abundance of trout food almost everywhere.
