TABLE TENNIS CLUB

Presentation of Trophies

An enjoyable social evening was spent recently at the Railway Workshops Social Hall, when the Hutt Railway Workshops Table Tennis Club held its cdneludiug social and presentation of trophies. A large gathering was entertained with a -programme ot (lancing, and by musical items by Messrs. J. Fordie and G. Brand.

The novelty dances were won by the following:—Lucky spot, Miss B. Strang and Mr. 11, Nuttall; monte carlo, Mr. and Mrs. N. White; statue dance, Mrs. Hoot anil Mr. G. McGhie The following trophies were presented :—-A grade championship, Mr. R. Williams; B grade championship. Sir. S. Askew: best performance in interclub matches, Sir. S. Evans; most improved player, Mr. Brennan. Slesrs. F. E. aud S. J. Smith were the Sl.C.’s, and Sir. It. Hart provided the music. DISPLAY OF WORK Petone College Students Students of the Petone Memorial Technical College held their annual display of work at the college on Friday. In addition to the exhibits there was a drill display on the Petone Recreation Ground, where the pupils were directed by the instructor, Sir. W. A. Ritchie. Indoors there was a mannequin parade by the pupils of Sliss O. Anderson, the dressmaking instructress. About fifty girls took part, exhibiting coat-S and winter, summer, afternoon, and sports frocks of their own make and design. In the art class the pupiis of Mr. T. Tarrant were seen at work in a room surrounded by examples of black and white drawing, colour work, and poster designs of considerable merit.

A typewriting class under the commercial instructresses, Mrs. A. Hartley and Miss A. E. Anderson, was also seen learning touch-typewriting, of which the college makes a feature. There were also exhibited in this room types? of business letters, bookkeeping, aud some very fine artistic worl? in red, black, and white in the shape of “drawings” accomplished with the typewriter. The home science class had some very tempting exhibits of cookery, besides other work done by this important department. In the workshops the visitors saw the work of the boys in wood and metal, mid mechanical drawing. In the engineering department, which is under Messrs. J. Lowry. A. Rlcldolls, and I. Campbell, were examples of ironwork such as gardening tools and household implements. The work of the agricultural students, who take handwork at this college, occupied a special table In the cabinetmakiug department, under Mr. R. Scott, there was a line display of useful and ornamental articles such as chests of drawers, medicine cabinets and lamp stands. The manual training class under Mr. 11. Miller had an exhibition of the work done by primary school pupils. The visitors were received by the principal and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. A. McFadyen, and members of the boai'l of managers were present.
