INTOXICATED DRIVER

Medical Man Convicted

Charged with being drunk while in charge of a ear, ti metrical practitioner. Selwyn Langstaffe Haslett, was fined £25 in the Wellington Ma gist rate's Court on Saturday. His driving license was also endorsed.

Mr. A. J. Mazcngarb, who appeared for accused, entered a plea of guilty. Senior-Sergeant J. Dempsey described how on Friday night Constable Wilson found defendant in a stationary car; he was lying asleep across the wheel. The constable woke him up, and stook him to the Taranaki Street station, .vhe're two medical men saw him and stated him to be intoxicated. Mr. Mazengtirb said that accused had recently disposed of his practice in the north, and had come to Wellington. The worry and work involved in taking over a new practice had proved very exhausting, and he had taken a drink to buck himself up. He had not been driving the car, but. was merely asleep in it. Counsel asked that the driving license be endorsed, and not cancelled. Mr. IV. F. Stilwell, S.M., was on the bench.
