Centenary Thousand Race FRENCHMAN RETIRES (Received October 26, 11.20 p.m.) Melbourne, October 26. In the sixth stage of the Centenary Thousand Cycle Race, Mithouard (France); after several punctures and a broken wheel, announced his retirement Although riding conditions were shocking, the original route over the mountains was adhered to, freshlyfallen snow adding to the difficulties. Mithouard held the lead in the championship aggregate. Opperman also suffered many mishaps, and his chances of the championship are diminishing. Milliken is now ineligible owing to his having received assistance from a police motor-cyclist. Watson (New Zealand) is still riding well. •
