Cricket Season Opening « — I TENNIS, BOWLS AND GOLF The cricket season will open this afternoon, when a start will be made with grade championship matches. The 'Wellington Cricket Association will stage two senior games at the Basin Reserve, Midland meeting Wellington, and Wellington College Old Boys opposing University. The other games in the senior championship will be Kilbirnie v. Institute, on Kilbirnie Reserve, and Hutt v. I‘etone, on the Hutt Recreation Ground. The Wellingon Mercantile Cricket League will take a step forward to-day. when championship games will be played for the first time on their new head quarters at Athletic Dark. Three A grade matches will be played on Athletic Pari:, Sargoods meeting Nivens. Customs A opposing Cowans, and Smith and Smith fighting out the issue w-itb Roseneath. Two B grade teams, Woolworths and Taxes A, will also meet, on Athletic Park, The other matches in the A grade will be the State Fire v. Jasco, on 'Wakefield Park, and Overseas Shipping v. BookersBrteks, on Newtown Park. The Golf Card. The final of the Miramar Ladies' Club's senior championship will be fought out this morning between Mrs. Mills' and Miss Gamibrill. and Miss Jacobs ami Mrs. Sterling will meet in the final of the junior championship. The qualifying rounds for the Wellington club’s championship will be played at Heretaunga to-morrow. The Titahi club is sending a team to Palmerston North to-day to make a bid for the Nathan Cup, which is eoinpeted for by players with handicaps of 15 and over. A fourball bogey- competition, will be played on the Shandon links this afternoon. The Mornington club will play a senior and junior Canadian foursome competition during the week-end. The Shandon Ladies’.Club will play an L.G.U. round, in conjunction with a flag match, to-morrow. Rifle Shooting. The Suburbs Rifle Club will continue the championship series at. Trentbam today, the shoot being lhe first of the No. 4 series, comprising two shoots a’t SOO yards. Lawn Tennis. The lawn tennis season on grass will begin in M'ellington to-day witli the opening of the Tborndon club’s courts, A Yankee tournament will be held, beginning at 1 p.m.
