Late Mr. Vivian Riddiford A PUBLIC-SPIRITED MAN In honour of the late Mr. Vivian Riddiford, a memorial service will be held in St James’s Church, Lower Hutt, at 2 o’clock this afternoon. The vicar, the Rev. H. E. K. Fry, will conduct the service, and the Ven. Archdeacon A. L. Hansell will also take part Associated with his brothers, Mr. Eric Riddiford and Mr. Daniel Riddiford, the late Mr. Riddiford did much toward the beautification and progress of Lower Hutt. They donated the Riddiford Baths, and on that account Riddiford Park was named after them. The late Mr. Riddiford and his brothers also gave the site for Marsden School at Karorl. “He was of a particularly retiring nature, but I know him to have been one of the most public-spirited men in the Dominion, and one who delighted to do good without having his name associated with his act,” said Mr. W. T. Strand, ex-Mayor of Lower Hutt, in paying a tribute to the late Mr. Riddiford. “During my term of office in the acute stages of the depression he was most liberal, and gave assistance in every undertaking for the benefit of the district and for the aid of those in need.”
