FEWER FALSE ALARMS

Fire Figures For August

During the month of August the number of calls answered by the Wellington Fire Brigade was 50. Of tfiese, 32 were actual fires and 18 .were false alarms. Of the actual fires, 15 were property, 13 chimneys, and 4 gorse, grass and rubbish fires. Of the false alarms, 10 were justifiable and 8 were malicious. For the five months to the end of August, there were 244 calls, as compared with 220 for the corresponding period of last year.

Of the ICO actual fires in the fivemonth period, 32 were extinguished by hand-pump, 13 by chemical extinguisher, 30 by hydrants, 37 by buckets, gnd 48 by other means.
