The “Dally Mail” says that a test of an aircraft engine silencer by the AJr Ministry shows it to be so successful that the noise is less than that of motor-cars. It is easy to hear conversation in normal tones and the engine is inaudible from the ground when a plane is flying at a height of 2500 feet. Raiders equipped with the device could not be detected though flying at 180 miles per hour.
If air-screw noise is as effectively deadened existing aircraft defences will b e useless. Silent war planes could bomb London and return to their base while the defenders still wondered where they were.
