LATE MR. R. A. LOUGHNAN

Funeral on Saturday Many mourners attended the Requiem Mass celebrated at St. Mary of the Angels Church, Boulcott Street, on Saturday morning, for the repose of the soul of the late Mr. R. A. Loughnan, veteran journalist and former member of the Legislative Council. The celebrant was the Rev. Father O’Connor, S.M., and there were present in the sanctuary Fathers Cleary, Crocker, Cahill and Dlgnan, all of the Society of Mary. The chief mourners were Messrs. C. A. L. Loughnan and F. O’B. Loughnan ( brothers of the deceased), and Messrs. C. J. Loughnan and George Harper, of Otak! (nephews). Leaving the house where Mr. Loughnan resided on Wellington Terrace the bearers were Messrs. Frank Jones, C A. L> and C. J. Loughnan, H. H. Newton and J. Bald win, and later at the church and graveside the pall-bearers were Messrs. Frank Campbell (president), W. Gray Young (vice-president), Jaspar Baldwin, Maurice Denniston, A. W. Hawley (secretary), of the Rotary Club, of which Mr. Loughnan was the oldest meifiber in New Zealand, and Mr. George Harper, of Otaki. At tbe graveside at Karori the- service was conducted by the Rev. Father Dignan, whff was assisted by clergy representing the Thorndon parish and St. Patrick’s College. Among those present were: — Sir Frederick Chapman, Hon. William. Perry, M.L.C., Dr. Guy H. Scholefield (Assembly librarian), Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., Dr. G. W. Harty, Messrs. T. E. Y. Seddon, A. E. Donne and Miss Lorna Donne, Mr. and Mrs. T. A Fraser, Messrs. E. A. Blundell and J Parker (representing the “Evening Post”), Messrs. J. IVO’Regan. W. 11. Atack, J. D. Sievwright, F. W. Furkert, Samuel Saunders, H. Amos, H. H. Newton, H. Hooper, A. B. Lane (Press Association), ex-Judge Gilfedder (formerly of the Native Land Court). Colonel and Mrs. J. G. Hughes, Messrs. Norman Bell, M. Bourke, F. Weston (Hansard staff). T. Coltman. J. B. Callan, K.C., U 1 tan McCabe, J. J. McGrath. L. Fanning, G. Burns (“Christchurch Times”), K. Usmar (“Auckland Star”), J. McDonald, E. Casey, S. Jenkinson, C. Campbell, H. I. Forde (representing the Parliamentary Press Gallery), J. Devine, A. T. Bothamley, John Myers, W. G. Riddell, and many others.
