TIRE BURSTS; CAR SOMERSAULTS
Accident in Wairarapa SIX OCCUPANTS RECEIVE INJURIES Dominion Special Service. Masterton, September 16. Three persons were admitted to the Masterton Hospital to-day suffering from injuries received in a motor accident which occurred between Greytown and Tauherenikau shortly before nine o’clock this morning. Those admitted to hospital are Mrs. Thomas Leete, Bentley Street, Masterton, suffering injuries to right shoulder and a dislocated hip. Mr. Thomas Leete, Bentley Street, head and shoulder injuries and shock. Mr. Donald Leete, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leete, cuts on right leg and arm. The driver, Mr. John Leete, motormechanic of Masterton and son of Mr. and Mrs. Leete, escaped with minor cuts from flying glass. Two other passengers, Mr. and Mrs. S. Geary, also of Masterton, are suffering from bruises and shock. The accident was caused through one of the tires of the car bursting when the party was travelling south along the main highway between Greytown and Featherston. The car skidded to the side of the road and one wheel collapsed, with the result that the vehicle, a touring model, turned a complete somersault, flnishing up on its wheels again. In turning over the hood collapsed and the windscreen was shattered.
The driver stuck to the wheel, but all five passengers were thrown from the car on to the bitumen roadway. They all received medical attention on the roadside, and wqre later removed to Mastertdn, where' Mr. and Mrs. Leete and Mr. D. Leete were admitted to hospital. They were reported late to-night to be progressing satisfactorily.
