AMATEUR BILLIARDS

Small Table Tournament

Great interest is being shown in the small table billiards tournament, and the attendance at last evening’s session was large. The quality of play is on the upgrade, and the handicappers appear to have gauged relative merits accurately. Pedrotti, owes 90, was defeated by J. Brackenridge, scr. At 226 the loser had caught up his arrears, and passed the winner, and from this stage first the one led and then the other. Brackenridge is a keen tournament player in various sports, and his experience in close finishes serves him well. The game ended, Brackenridge 290, Pedrotti 281. Best breaks: Pedrotti, 26, 23, 20, 25. Brackenridge, 23, 26, 20. The game between Henry Dyhrberg, rec. 60, and V. N. Fordham, rec. 70, was closely contested, and until the last, few strokes was either player’s game. Scores: Dyhrberg 200, Fordham 180. Dyhrberg made a break of 26.

As was to be expected, tihe game between George Dyhrberg, owes 250, and G. A. Lang, scr., provided billiards quiie out of the ordinary. Dyhrberg had to play his very best, and only caught his opponent when the latter needed 13 points to win. The scores were 450 and 437. The best breaks were: Dyhrberg, 36, 47, 22, 21, 84, 20, 67, 26, and 50 unfinishe.*. Lang, 28, 21, 35.

R. Bull, rec. 90, had little difficulty in defeating..!. Kelleher, rec. 50. the final scores being, Bull 200 and Kelleher 141. The latter was the only one to make any breaks, securing a 24 and a 22. SV. R. Moore, rec. 20, defeated F. Lockett, rec. 70, by a very narrow margin. Neither player felt comfortable or was able to produce any billiards out of the ordinary, although occasional clever individual shots were scored.

Armstrong, owes 25, proved 100 good for H. Tumey, rec. 60, and idayed quite nicely. iHis break of 44 was well compiled, and contained some billiards above the ordinary. Tunley did’ not do himself justice, and, if anything, had the worst of the run of his balls. The winner's best breaks were 44, 23, 25. and the scores were Armstrong 225 and 11. Tunley 157. To-night, at. 7 o’clock, Devine plays T. Taylor, and Fitzgerald plays 55’. D.vhrbergat 8 o’clock. Plowman plays J. Tunley, and at 9 o’clock Scolon plays Dunean, and Hid. Dyhrberg plays M. Gilbert). Some very good billiards should l>e seen, as two of the players are ex-champiou».
