Tlie distinguished actor, Sir Nigel Playfair, who died yesterday in London following an operation, was responsible during his association with (lie late Arnold Bennett for the rediscovery of many masterpieces of the theatre, notably “The Beggar’s Opera,” which ran for years. Sir Nigel Playfair took over the derelict suburban theatre at Hammersmith for his productions, which had a great vogue. He was taken ill while acting in a Shakespearean piny in an open-air theatre at Regent's Park.
