REMARKS EXPLAINED
Governor-General on His Successor By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, August 21. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Bledisloe arrived last night on a short visit, and will attend many functions. Lord Bledisloe, at a British public schools luncheon, stated that the Press had not quite correctly interpreted his public reference at Christchurch to the appointment of his successor, and he feared that some embarrassment had been caused to the Government; a thing which he much regretted. All he desired to convey, in view of a suggestion that the recommendation to the King came from Ministers at Home, was that in view of the status of equality enjoyed by the Dominion the actual recommendation came from the head of the Dominion Government, and that such a recommendation had during the last few days in the case of his successor been put forward for his Majesty's consideration.
