NEW ZEALAND DANCER

Letter From Miss Beere

At the beginning of the winter writes Miss Estelle Beere, the wellknown Wellington dancing teacher, from Sydney, I had a bad attack of bronchitis, following Joan’s very successful appearance with the J. C. Williamson firm as solo dancer in "Listen Jester,” a delightful show that had only a short run as all thc artists were wanted for ‘.‘White Horse Inn.” -I think Joan and Leon Kellaway were the only two not in tlie cast. Only tap and folk dancing in team-work was needed.

After my slow recovery we went tip to Leura in the Blue Mountains, where I became hale and hearty again and we both had a thoroughly enjoyable time. We would have stayed much longer, had not Joan received word that a place as solo dancer awaited her in the new Sir Benjamin Fuller musical comedy, "Merry Malones.” The show opened two months ago and is still running to excellent houses. It is very pleasing; clean, bright, tuneful and full of colour and charm. Joan has only two solo numbers, both “sur les poiutes,” and is getting plenty of publicity. Peggy Welch, a former pupil of mine, is in the ballet and shows up well. Good Wellington! I am always thrilled when I see a New Zealander doing well in another country. /There is another also in the cast with quite a good part; “Keith Connolly,” who. I understand, is an'elder brother of the Dunedin man (Colin Tapley) who won the film contest and is now in Hollywood. CARTER’S WOOL SHOPS. Carter’s Wool Shops are showing a delightful range of new spring knitting wools, in beautiful colourings, also large stocks of wools for every purpose. Burlington Corner and T. and G. Buildings, .Lambton Quay.—Advt. Corsage Sprays of Orchids, Roses, Violets. Debutantes’ Posies.—Miss Murray, 36 Willis St. Phone ‘lO-511.—Advt.
