INJURIES TO GIRL
Damages Amounting to £196 Awarded by Jury ACCIDENT AT ISLAND BAY Damages amounting to £196/9/6 were awarded Lorna Inwood, schoolgirl, of Island Bay, by a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday, in a case in which her guardian, Irvine Vincent Hobart Inwood, claimed £350 general damages, and £46/9/6, from Messrs. Fuller-Lipton, Ltd. It was alleged by claimant that on December 15 last she was run down by a motor-van driven by George Imlach, servant of the company, and that the accident was due to the negligence of Imlach in (1) driving at an excessive speed in regard to the circumstances; (2) failing to keep a proper look-out; (3) failing to steer clear of plaintiff; (4) failing to slow down, stop, or otherwise avoid the accident The defence contended that if Imlach was guilty of any negligence or unskilfulness, or at all (which was denied), plaintiff was herself negligent in (1) running out into the roadway after a hat which was being carried along by the wind; (2) failing to keep a proper look-out; (3) altering her direction without any, or alternatively, insufficient, warning. Mr. J. Meltzer appeared for plaintiff, ' and Mr. E. Parry for defendant.
