Unemployment Problem CHRISTCHURCH PROPOSAL i By Telegraph.—Tress Association. Christchurch, July 26. A public meeting convened by Dr. T. H. J. Thacker to-night carried a resolution that representatives of the Public Works Department, the Highways Board, the Municipal Association, the chairmen of the Counties’ Association and the Unemployment Board be asked to consider the whole problem of the unemployed. ' It was suggested that consideratlot be given to the replacement of the present Unemployment Board by district provincial board.?, who would receive unemployment finance according to population or the number of registered unemployed in the district; the raising of an Internal loan for unem.ployment of, say, ten millions should be considered; the present tax should be reduced to 3d. in the £1 of such sum as would be required to pay interest and sinking fund over the period required to pay off the loan at 3 per cent, interest and 2 per cent, sinking fund, the money so raised to be used in necessary public or local body works which could not now be carried on for lack of money. •
