The Legion and Politics

Sir, —As one whose chief concern is the welfare of all classes, the letter in this morning's “Dominion” under the somewhat crude nom de plume “Take Your Gruel,” is not conducive to students of political economy contributing to the columns of the daily Press. The supporters of the legion would be well advised, in their ire. to refrain from indulging in distasteful phraseology and innuendoes such as “a certain erstwhile political organiser.” “hypocritical talk” and “party propagandists.” Nothing is more instructive than sound, legitimate criticism to be read in your columns from day to day. No doubt as time goes on the followers of the legion will appreciate that to indulge. more or less, in abus’ve and arrogant contributions to the Press merely reflects upon the legion as an organisation. and nullifies ideals of reform. —I am. etc.. IMPARTIAL. Wellington, July 27. Sir, —The Hftler-ite outburst of “Take Your Gruel” in yours of July 27, is a clear indication, if any other was needed, nf the Fascist nature of the N.Z Legion His final statement: “You know very well that only-a group in power can kill the party game.” and the avowed inten ti'on of the legion “group” to do so. should be a warning to all of us of the danger confronting this conntry.—l am. etc.. ROBERT ITENfOAW. Miramar. July 27.
