Sir Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., returned to Christchurch last night.
Mr. D. Westenra, Christchurch, returned •to the south last night. Mr. R. Arlow, Wellington, left last night for the south.
Squadron-Leader T. M. Wilkes was among the steamer express passengers for the south last night.
Mr. P. Hockley, of Gordon and Gotch, Ltd., Wellington, left for the south last night.
Mr. G. W. Heid and Mr. D. Reese, members-of the Railways Board, were among the passengers by the steamer express to the south last night. Mr. J. Pierard has been promoted to the position of senior technician, and has been given the status of assistant bacteriologist at Wellington Hospital. Sir George Elliot and Mr. Oliver Nicholson, of. Auckland, returned north by the Limited express last night after a short business visit to Wellington.
Mr. H. D. Acland, Christchurch, Mr. James Begg, Dunedin, members of the Meat Board, returned to the south last night.
Mr. A. R. Shepard. Wellington, general manager of the J. C. Williamson Picture Corporation Ltd., is visiting Christchurch.
Captain Cecil L. Reyne, R.N., who was appointed second member of the New Zealand Naval Board in 1926, has been promoted to the rank of rearadmiral, and has retired from the Navy after 39 years’ service.
Mr. George Conrad Petersen, of Palmerston North, was yesterday afternoon admitted by Mr. Justice Ostler as a barrister of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, on the motion of Mr. G. I. McGregor, Palmerston North. Mr. J. R. Kirk has been appointed bj" the Royal Empire Society as joint honorary corresponding secretary at Wellington witli Mr. Leonard O. H. Tripp. For many years Mr. Kirk was the society's representative at Gisborne.
Mr. Gordon Bryan, examiner for this year’s practical examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London, is now in Auckland. He will leave for Whangarei on August 8 and will later conduct examinations in the Pukekohe and Hamilton districts. Mr. G. A. Pascoe, whose appointment to the Unemployment Board was recently announced, will retire, shortly from the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors. The Canterbury Manufacturers' Associatoin has nominated Mr. C. S. McCully for the position. Mr. A. E. Ford, manager of the Auckland Transport Board for twelve years, will leave for England next month (states a Press Association telegram). He expects to investigate the latest transport developments. Mr. 11. H. Bartley, manager of the Auckland power Board, will also leave next month for England to investigate electrical sower development
