Conversion to Motor-ship The examination of her hull having proved satisfactory, the Anchor Company’s steamer Nikau Is to be converted into a motor-ship. The Nikon was towed to Wellington on. July 6. after having been laid up at Nelson since May, 1931, and placed on the Patent Slip to see if her hull 'vras in a sound enough condition to warrant the conversion i Built by Mackie and Thomson, Ltd? at Glasgow in 1909, the Nikau is ft twin screw vessel of 248 tons gross, and for many years ran in the Welling-ton-Nelson ferry service, ...Her conversion from steam to oil-tvlll Increase her cargo-carrying capacity, while her passenger accommodation is to be dismantled, which will further increase her carrying;capacity.
