CHARGE OF ASSAULT

Man Committed for Trial (Received July 20. 9.55 p.m.) Sydney, July 20. A taxi-driver, Edward Albert Charles Collings, aged 35, was committed for trial on a charge of assaulting Alfred Edwards and robbing him of a small sum of money and a tram pass. A cable received on July 8 stated that Alfred Edwards, an employee of the Randwick Military Hospital, after spending an afternoon in the city, met two men who offered to drive him home. The car sped in the opposite direction, nowever, and Edwards was battered until he was unconscious and hurled into scrub He was later admitted to hospital with head and face wounds and a fractured jaw. He was robbed of the few shil lings he had with him.
