Opperman’s 1000-Mile Ride London, July 19. The Australian cyclist, Hubert Opperman, after resting at John o’ Groats, continued in an attempt on the thousand-mile record. He encountered heavy fogs and was buffeted throughout the night. Eventually he covered 1000 miles in 4435 minutes, reducing the record by 9 hours 43 minutes.
