South Australian Oranges For New Zealand • - SHIPMENT OF 4000 CASES The hope that the negotiations regarding the importation of Australian citrus fruits would be satisfactorily concluded at an early date was expressed by the Minister of Customs. Rt. Hon. J. ,G.= Coates,-in a statement in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Mr. Coates said that in view of the situation, particularly in the South Island, with respect to the available supplies of oranges, the Government had decided, pending the completion of negotiations at present taking place with the Commonwealth Government, now to allow the importation of 4000 cases of South Australian prariges per s.s. Waitaki, which; waft: scheduled to arrive at Bluff- on i August ‘l3 ' next. Of this shipment 3000 cases were for discharge at South-. Island : ports and 1000 at Wellington. Dunedin, July 20. : Oranges being very scarce, the Dunedin executive of the South Island Fruit Produce Association has telegraphed as follows to Mr. Clark, Dunedin secretary of the Seamen’s Union, who is in Wellington, and Mr. Roberts, secretary of the Alliance of Labour: — “Sickness from want of oranges Is rampant in Dunedin. We urge the Seamen’s Union, for humanity’s sake, to load the Monterey and Mariposa’ shipments at once, thereby retaining public sympathy.” -
