Progress of Membership Campaign BUSINESS LECTURES Increased interest in the various activities and in membership, were reported at the meeting of the Board of Directors of tlie Y.M.C.A. of Wellington this week. Mr. K. 11. Kimmo presided. - , The tlnancial position showed that while there had been a big improvement on the figures for last year, £750 would be required to meet the budget for the current year. In addition to an appeal to last year’s subscribers to contribute again, it was decided to make a direct house-to-house appeal. The general secretary. Mr. L. J. Greenberg, reported that steady progress was being made in the membership increase effort. A sub-committee was appointed to Investigate the question of retaining the services of an assistant secretary in the boys’ work department, the membership of which Lad Increased by over 100 during the present year. The board approved a proposal submitted by the Wellington Boy Employment Committee providing for the Y.M.C.A. to undertake again the organisation and supervision of the Penrose training camp for boys through the general secretary, provided that a satisfactory disposition of the Y.M.C.A. staff can be arranged. Resolutions expressing sympathy with Messrs. G. E. Dowland and J. M. A. Hott in their illnesses were passed. Figures presented by the membership committee showed that the association’s membership is now 730, excluding a number of young men and boys who. on account of the present financial situation, are being granted Y.M.C.A. privileges without any cost. Arrangements were made for a winter conversazione for July 26, when ail sections of the membership will be invited to introduce their friends to the association. Approval was granted the inauguration of a personality and business efficiency course for the benefit of young men in business in the city. The programme for this course is: July 31, "The Personal Factor in Business,” Sir Alexander Roberts; August 7, “The Bases of Good Health,” Dr. L. G. Austin; August 14, “The Structure of Modern Commerce,” Mr. A. D. Paisley; August 21, "Business and Government,” Cr. H. A. Huggins; August 28, “Public Speaking and SelfExpression,” Mr. O. C. Mazengarb; September 4, "Principles of Advertising.” Mr. E. A. Clark; September H> “Selling,” Mr. W. F. Ponder; September 18, "Window Dressing ahd Stores Display,” Mr. George Hopkins and Staff; September 25, "Office Efficiency,” .Mr. G. Springhall; October 2, “Business English and Correspondence,” Mr. T. L. James: October i). "Outline of Insurance," Mr. C. J. Palmer; October 16, “Instruments of Commerce," Mr. A. J.
