MAY BE REPLACED
Money From Highways Fund By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, July 20. The opinion that motorists had good prospects of having reinstated to the Main Highways Fund the whole, or a large part, of the £500,000 appropriated from motor taxation for purposes of the Consolidated Fund was expressed by the president, Mr. W. O’Callaghan (Hawfira) at a meeting of the executive of the North Island Motor Union. The executive discussed the possibility of obtaining a reduction in taxation in addition to the restoration of the half-million for reading purposes, and carried a resolution that the secretary be instructed to press to the limit for a reduction in taxation. The president reminded members that there would be an election next year and therefore there should be some prospect of taxation reduction after March 31 next.
