LATE MR. E. W. KANE, C.M.G.
♦— Funeral Yesterday There was a large and representative attendance at the funeral of the late Mr. Edward W. Kane, C.M.G., Clerk of Parliaments, which took place in Wellington yesterday morning. Requiem Mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. In the Hill Street Basilica. The Rev. Father P. Smyth was the celebrant and his Grace Archbishop O’Shea was in the Sanctuary. Miss Milligan played the Dead March in "Saul” as a recessional. The Rev. Father Milligan conducted the service at the graveside at the old Roman Catholic cemetery above Mount Street, where other members of the family have been interred. The chief mourners were Miss Kaue and Miss Amy Kane, nieces of the deceased. Mr. A. J. Luke, of Wellington, represented the two step-sons (Messrs. Baume), who reside in Sydney. The pall-bearers were: Messrs. A. Mackay, C. McDougall, G. Williams and H. Woodbridge, of the messengers’ staff of the House of Representatives; Mr. J. A. Capper, chief messenger of the Legislative Council; and Mr.i W. Cochrane, of the staff of Bellamys. Among those present were the Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Education, representing the Government; Sir Charles Statham, Speaker of the House of Representatives ; Sir Walter Carncross, Speaker of the Legislative Council; Sir Cecil and Lady Day, Sir Harold Beauchamp, Sir Frederick Chapmr .
