Last Night’s Meeting The Wellington City Council met last night, the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, presiding. There were present Council- • lors W. 11. Bennett, W. J. Gnudin, W. Duncan, 11. A. Huggins, T. Forsyth, J. Burns, M. F. Luckie, W. Appleton, P. M. Butler, C. H. Chapman, T. Ilriudle, and R. McKeen. » * * The reserves department was authorised to undertake the formation of a redreatiou ground ou an area set aside for the purpose at Cashmere Estate Khandallah, under the No. 5 relief works scheme. « * • It was decided to form a croquet court at Nairnville Park for the use of the Ngaio Municipal Croquet Club. o » e The Wellington Football Association was permitted to relinquish five playing grounds allocated to it for use during the present season. « * • That the £7OO provided on the estimates for rebuilding dressing sheds, Karori Park, should be used for the erection of dressing sheds, etc., at llalaitai recreation ground, a recommendation of the reserves committee, was approved.

Improvements are to be effected in the lighting of Puru Crescent and Cuba Street (between Manners and Vivian Streets). Requests for better lighting in Hobart Street and Mersey Street West were declined as the present lighting was considered adequate.

A request of die Melrose and Houghton Valley Ratepayers’ Associations for the extension of the tramway to Melrose and Houghton Valley was declined.

Approval was given to an agreement reached with the Wellington Gas Company concerning the use by the commin.v of the tramway lines between the Miramar wharf and the company’s works at Miramar.

The annual resolution fixing the corporation overdraft for the year 1934-35 at £21X1,000 was agreed to.'

Cr. C. 11. Chapman, pointing out the danger of bicyclew in the Hata.itai tunnel, asked that something be done Io lessen it. The Mayor said he would (.'infer with the chief traffic inspector.
