“PREYED ON WOMEN”
Company Promoter Sent to Prison By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, May 9. "My client embarked' on a sea of company promotion, and many older men have been wrecked on that dangerous sea.” said Mr. Noble in the Supreme Court in pleading for leniency on behalf of John Hartland Pierron’ 24 years of age, an agent, who had been found guilty on two charges of false pretence:, involving £2oo and one of theft involving £391/8/1. The judge said prisoner thought he would he able to hoodwink the jury by suggesting that two of the women (omplaiuants in the case had become infatuated with him and this was why they advanced the money to him. This suggestion was rightly net believed. Although prisoner had an honest ap-r-aranee lie was a man who preyed on women and attacked their honour. Prisoner was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment with hard labour, to be followed by reformative detention for a neriod not exceeding three years.
