YESTERDAY’S WEATHER
Cold and Squally in Wellington The weather at Wellington was cold and squally all day, with frequent showers. A southerly wind, strong to gale force, prevailed. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 47.4 degrees, and tl maximum during the day was 49.0 deg. The maximum gust, of wind was about 56 m.p.h. at 2.55 p.m.. although several gusts of more than 50 m.p.h. were felt during the afternoon. The weather at Palmerston North yesterday was changeable. Heavy rain fell at intervals throughout the afternoon, while there were several spells of sunshine. Conditions were cold. Cold and si. .wery weather conditions continued at Masterton. There was a strong gusty wind blowing from the south. A cold, boisterous, southerly wind blew in Wanganui, and there were several showers of rain. Fine sunny weather and a moderate south-west, wind prevailed at Auckland. The barometer was practically steady. The weather at Christchurch improved, with some sunshine, but there was a strong cold south-west; wind and some showers of rain. The barometer rose to 30.20iq. and the maximum temperature was 48.8 deg. The weather was again unsettled and wintry at Dunedin, heavy rain falling during the early hours of the morning. There was some improvement after midday, and no further rain fell. More than 3J inches of raffi has fallen during the past five days. The maximum temperature ye« terday was 46 degrees and the minimum 39 degrees. A moderate south we#t wind was blowing. The barometer registered 30.-Isin. in the after noon.
