BOY EMPLOYMENT
Many Placed During March PROBLEM IN HUTT VALLEY It is reported by the secretary of the Wellington Boy Employment Committee, Mr. L. J. Greenberg, that during the month of March, 120 boys were placed in employment, all of whom, excepting 17, were in the city. There were 08 new registrations, leaving a total of 336 awaiting employment, 50 per cent, of which consists of youths from 18 to 20 years of age. There are' indications of an improvement in the demand for boys on farms, and the committee would be pleased to hear from boys who are seeking suitable placement’ in the country. The committee has been giving special attention to unemployed boys residing in the Hutt Valley district It has been found that these boys have been under a distinct disadvantage because of the distance they have to travel to the city and the expense involved. A special appeal is being made for employers to consider Hutt Valley boys, and in the meantime, Mr. Greenberg reports, the committee n.is had a representative visiting the Hutt and Petone districts, looking up the boys in their homes and calling on local employers. All Hutt Valley boys who are unemployed are requested to keep in touch with the committee, the address of which is care of the Wellington Y.M.C.A.
