Youths Plead Guilty A LUCKY CRASH By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, May 2. Two shabbily-dressed young men. William George Davis (20) and Charles Young (18), both farm labourers. appeared at the Ouehunga Police Court to-day charged with the theft of an aeroplane valued at £l2OO. the property of the Auckland Aero Club, also with the theft of 17 gallons of benzine, a tin of paint, Hying equipment, a pea rifle, tools, etc. The 1 prosecuting detective said that the accused had walked from Mata niata looking for work, and for about a week had been sleeping out. It was while watching activities at the Mnngere aerodrome that they made up their minds to steal a machine. They slept in a nearby haystack till midnight, and then got a machine out of the hangar, and with Young at the controls set off with the intention of flying to Norfolk Island, en route to Australia. Fortunately for them, they crashed In a nearby swamp, otherwise their adventure must have ended tn tragedy. The aero club engineer said that the machine was damaged to the extent of £75 or £lOO. The accused pleaded guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Application was made to the court that they be kept separate from other prisoners on account of their age.
