Manawatu Competitions Dominion- Special Service. Palmerston North, May 2. The Manawatu Competition Society’s 1934 musical and elocutionary festival will open at the Empire Hall next Monday. The festival has been planned on a smaller scale than on previous occasions, and is being held principally for the benefit of the younger competitors. ’ Despite the fact that no prizes other than certificates are being offered, the entries for the fixture total almost 600. Approximately one-third of the entries are from outside the Manawatu district. Air. H. Barry Coney, of Auckland, will judge the vocal and Instrumental sections. Miss Madeline Vyner, of Wellington, will judge the dancing classes, and Miss Beatrice MacKenzie. of Woodford House School, will judge the elocution items. Mrs. A. J. McNeilly will act as official accompanist.
