SHOOTING SEASON

Quiet in Wairarapa CLOSED SEASON AT LAKE Dominion Special Service. Masterton. May 1. On account of a closed season for ducks and other game having been declared at the Wairarapa Lake this year, to-dayt—he opening of the shooting season—holds little significance to XVairarapa sportsmen, except to those able to visit outside districts. Stores in he district retailing firearms and ammunion report a decrease in business this year, although they have disposed of a certain quantity of their goods to sportsmen who have vacated this district for other parts.

Though the closed season is held in disfavour by many local sportsmen, they do, at the same tlm.e, realise that it xvill have a beneficial effect in allowing the game inhabiting the regions of the lake to increase numerically.
