INCREASE IN WAGES
Storemen and Packers’ Union Resolutions The annual meeting of the Storemen and Packers’ Union of Wellington was held on Monday, when the following resolutions were carried : — “That the Government be approached through the organised industrial and political bodies with the view to obtaining by legislation 14 days’ annual leave on full pay to nil workers having served the same employer for upward of 12 months. The oil companies having cut their employees down to half a week annual leave cannot be justified, and greater leisure to workers must be given.” “That future prosperity can only be achieved by extending through wages and salaries a greater measure of purchasing power, and that while appreciating the good feeling of many employers who have given back the 10 per cent, cut, we are of the opinion that a national move to raise the national standard of living will have to be made.” ‘That n system ■of registration ot youths unemployed, with the view of knowing the exact number idle, be made annually by the State, and that this idle force shall be employed and trained, on a planned production system, to produce and develop national resources for the maintenance and finally the absorption of the unemployed army.” "That the wages and conditions of the unemployed bo raised to a standard of decency equal to our resources, and mental and physical ability.” Mr. M. Burke was elected president for the ensuing year, and Mr. J. Tucker secretary.
