WORK FOR CHURCH
Presentation at Khandallah At the conclusion.of;lhe annual meeting of parishioners of Khandallah bn Monday night a presentation Was made to Mr. and Mrs. Crompton Smith in ap-, preekition of their 34 years of strenuous work for the Church in the district. . The vicar,' the Rev. E. M. Cowie, in inaking the presentation, spoke of Mr. Cfompaon Smith’s devoted service as a lay reader,; churchwarden, and member o'f Synod, and of Mrs. Crompton Smith’s work as head of the guild and in many other activities. He said the'parishioners felt that it was time they let Mi‘. and Jlrs. Crompton Smith, know what the.v thought of their unassuming work among them for so many yeai-s. lie. had a personal pleasure in making the presentation ' on account ot\the fact that 'when he wiis a small hoy lie and Mr. Crompton Smith had been fellow-members of the old Chuiieh'of England Gramm''i' School, founded by Bishop Selwyn, in I’ai'iiell, and now., when they were .no longer young, they found themselves in the relationship of vicar and vicar’s churchwarden. , * . Mr. John Robertson described the strenuous work done by Mr. Crompton Smith when Khandallah was a :part of ithe Johnsonville Parochial District and long distances over muddy roads had to be travelled: by lay readers and other otl'i'-ers. Mr. and Mrs. Crompton Smith suitably responded. The : parishioners’ gift consisted of a silver tea-pot. cream-jug. and sljgarbasin, inscribed.
