HOCKEY MATCHES

Visit From Masterton Teams

During the week-end two teams from the Kiwi Hockey Club, of Masterton/ visited Wellington for the purpose ot playing teams from the Huia club. The matches were played at Karon Park, the A game resulting in a draw, and the ±5 game in a win for Huia. Both games were played in the friendliest possible spirit, and were enjoyed by all participants. The matches were controlled by Messrs. Stubbings and Burnell Browne (A), and Burnip and Cusack (B). The visitors were entertained at a dance in the) Rita on Saturday night. Musical items, pois, and other native dances were given by a party from rOneke Ladies’ Hockey Club. ' On Sunday afternoon all four teams met for afternoon tea at the Ritz,.after a motor run around the Marine Dnve. Toasts honoured were The Visitors, proposed by Mr. McAlister and replied to by Mr. Stubbings. manager of the Kiwi teams; and “The Referees,” proposed by Mr. A. Jenkins, the Huia trainer, and replied to by Mr. Burnip. The visitors left by bus on Sunday afternoon. This was a return visit, the Hum club having travelled to Masterton at the .end of last season at the invitation of Kiwi, and it is now regarded as an annual fixture by both clubs. WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION ; Forty-four Teams Engaged With keen competition in all grades and the standard of hockey high, the previous season had been very satisfactory, it was stated at the annual meeting of the Wellington Women’s Hockey Association last night. Two new clubs had been affiliated, bring the number of teams in the four grades to 44. A recommendation was made to the management committee to add an intermediate grade in the competitions. The following officers were elected tot the coming season'President, Mr. J. C. Cusack; vice-presidents, Mesdamea Lark and H. J. Poulter, Messrs. R. G. Ridling, S. B. Browne, H. D. Bennett, W. A. Scott. S. J. McKelvie, Miss Yorston, and Dr. T. N. Usher; hon. secretary, Miss E. McClelland; assistant hon. secretary, Miss N. Williams; hon. treasurer, Miss T. Wind; delegate to N.Z.IY.H.A., Miss M. Wilkins; management committee, Mrs. C. Montgomery and Misses B. Charles, D. Fitt,. M. Slater, and McTigue; hon. auditor, Mt. Butcher.
