HARRIER SEASON
Clubs Hold Informal Runs
Although the official opeuiug of the harrier reason for 1934 does, not take place until next week-end, several of the clubs held informal rums on Saturday. There was a moderate attendance of membere and friends prewent when the Wellington Harrier Club staged a run from Lyall _Bay. The pack, under S. McKinnon (captain) and L. Watson (vice-cap-tain), started from the bathing sheds’, along the beach to the fishermens huts, and followed, the hills to the Seatoun tunnel, and then returned to Byall Bay via Broadway, the pipe line, mid Onei lll Road, a distance of about 4j miles. At Onepu Road a run-in waw held, which resulted in a dead-heat between E. Willetts and K. Hoy, 8. McKinnon juet beating Drawbridge for third place. The official opening run of the Scottish Harrier Club was held at Island Bay in ideal weather. There was a good attendance of supporters. Mr. n. Ba.liiiitviip son., president of the so* dressed the gathering and then called upon Mr. R. W. MeVilly, patron ol the club, to declare the season open. About 25 runners then participated in a run ol about five miles of eawy Rfiins. Several members of the Victoria College club turned out at an informal run. and all kept together in one pack und?r the leadership of the vice-captain, G. Oliver. Nothing strenuous was al tempted Tlie trail, which was of about foul miles and led fi;om Weir House, throug.i the Botanical Gardens, round Karon aml back again to the house, was taken at n jog-trot.
