LIVE STOCK EMBARGO
Views of Canterbury Bodies By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, March 22. The raising of the embargo on stock from Great Britain was discussed at the annual meeting of the Canterbury A. and P. Association to-night. A resolution was carried to the effect that the incoming committee consider the lifting of the embargo on British live stock. All the speakers except one favoured the removal of the embargo, emphasising that there had been a deterioration of cattle because of lack of new blood. The speakers considered the present precautions against foot-and-mouth disease adequate. The Corriedale Sheep Society at its annual meeting to-night decided, on the other band, to oppose the introduction of sheep to New Zealand from England or from any other country infected with foot-and-mouth disease. A motion proposing that the society support the Byeland Sheep Society’s proposal to allow one shipment of stud stock from England each year was lost by 12 votes to 9.
