DAIRY CONGRESS

World Meeting in Italy This Year NO NEW ZEALAND DELEGATE New Zealand will not be officially represented at the World’s Dairy Congress to be held in Rome and Milan from April 30 to May 6. The last conference was held in Copenhagen three years ago, and on that occasion the accredited New Zealand delegate was the inspector of New Zealand dairy produce in London, Mr. W. Wright. The conference was also attended by the London manager of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Control Board, Mr. H. E. Davis. The view has been taken by the authorities that the sending of a delegate to this year’s congress even from England is not justified.

The conference will be inaugurated at the Capitol, Rome, in the presence of his Majesty the King of Italy, who will be accompanied by the Queen. Business will be transacted in Rome on April 30, May 1, and on May 2. May 3 will be devoted to excursions and visits. On May 4 the congress members will go on special trains to Milan after a short stop in Florence or in Pisa. On May 5 and the following day the congress meetings will be resumed in Milan. Agricultural visits and toliring excursions will follow the meetings of the congress. The congress will be divided into sections which will discuss the following questions: Cattle breeding and milk production; hygiene, chemistry and bacteriology of milk and dairy products and milk and dairy products as human food; industrial utilisation and commerce of milk and dairy products; teaching, experimentation and propaganda concerning milk and dairy products; legislation and control of milk and dairy products; veterinary problems concerning milk; and tropical dairies.

Italian, French, English and German are the languages allowed during the debates of the congress. Each section will discuss the subjects on the agenda paper that are both of a general character and of an interest for the entire world, while general relators will summarise the reports submitted by congress members.
