The Papakura Court was listening to a horse owner declaiming on the wonderful, blood strain of a horse in a claim and counter-claim case. The witness was proceeding to tell tlie Court of tlie marvellous breeding that the horse in question had on the sire’s and even on the dam's side when his Worship, Mr. F. H. Levien, asked the witness what did he value the animal at, and at once came the reply, “One hundred pounds.” The magistrate replied : “Wouldn’t you rather have the hundred pounds?” The witness was rather nonplussed, and said lie did not like parting- wilh n gift horse. The magistrate had the final say when he adjusted the claim and counter-claim.
