County Council’s Decision MANAWATU DISTRICT NEWS Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, March 21. From the end of the present mouth the Manawatu County Council will dispense with ridings, and the county will be managed as a complete unit. A decision to close the riding accounts was confirmed at yesterday’s meeting of the council. Young Bird Show. The Manawatu Poultry Association held its third young bird show at the Palmerston North show grounds to-day with a record of 372 entries. A new section for budgerigars and foreign birds was introduced at this year’s fixture. The champion canary was a dear buff Yorkshire, exhibited by Mr. E. F. Wilkie, of Palmerston North. Tlie champion budgerigar was exhibited by Mr. and Mrs. 11. E. Edmunds, of Palmerston North. Feilding Beekeepers’ Association. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Feilding Beekeepers’ Association : —President, Mr. AV. G. Short; vice-presidents, Messrs. Dr G. Fraser and A. Anderson ; secretary-treas-urer, Miss C. A. Barnett: committee, Messrs. Jarrett. L. Edhouse, and A. Finch. Mr. Short said that, it was largely due to the work of the retiring president, Mr. D. G. Fraser, that the branch had attained its present satisfactory position.
Cheltenham Rifle Club. The Cheltenham Rifle Club held a shoot for the Smithers cup on its range on Saturday afternoon. The following were the best scores:—M. Cummings, 39-43-9-91; S. Barrow, 45-48-0-90: P. Churcher, 46-48-2-90; H. McFarlane, 48-38-4-90; S. C. Sandbrook. 40-45-3-88; R. Taylor, 42-36-8-86.
