PROLONGED DROUGHT
Marlborough’s “Darkest Days” APPEAL TO MINISTERS By Telegraph—Press Association. Blenheim, March 20. “These are Marlborough’s darkest davs.” stated Mr. E. F. Healy, M.P., In a dramatic telegram dispatched today to the Minister of Lands, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, and the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. J. Bitchener, urging both to visit the province immediately and see for themselves, and on behalf of the Government, the effect of the prolonged drought. Mr. Healy stated that in Renwick town all the wells had given out and the school had been closed for fear of an epidemic. Farmers anil others were carting water from the rivers, but the supply there showed signs of failing. Nearly all the winter feed had been used up. . . Mr. Healy appealed to both Ministers to catch the next steamer and to discuss irrigation and other urgent matters.
