GROWING CONFIDENCE
Commercial Conditions in Britain LESSON OF DEPRESSION (British Official Wireless.) (Received March 19, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, March 18. Speaking at the annual dinner of provincial brokers at the Stock Exchange. Hull. Mr. C. A. Nicholson stated that there was far more confidence in the industrial and commercial work to-day than at any time during the last few years. He said that trade was improving, unemployment decreasing, the bank clearings were up, railways traffic rising. company reports were better, and dividends higher. Above all, there was a big weight of money pressing down all interest rates and levering up investment value.
He added that during the years of depression .everyone had become far more efficient, and costs had been reduced in practically every industry.
