LIFE-SAVING

Lyall Bay Competition Two important club competitions were held at Lyall Bay during the week-end before a large number of interested spectators. The first event was a bellman’s team competition, of teams of three men. each of whom was required to put on the belt and swim to a buoy, the aggregate times of the three men being taken. The result was: A team (Deck, Ryan. Dickson), G. 50 3-5, 1 : D team (G. and J. Williams and B. Kuch). 7.2 2-5. 2; F team, 3. The fastest individual time was recorded by R. Pelham, who completed the distance in 1.57 2-5. F. Ryan and .1. Williams being next with 2.7 1-5 and 2.7 3-5 respectively. The result of the shield four-men reel competition was as follows: —D team (S. Muller, captain. F. Mollier, line, R. McKeenan, belt, J. Williams, patient), 53 points, 1; A team (W. Griffen, captain, L. Clark, line, F. Ryan, belt, R. Farcy, patient), 53 points, 2; C team. 51 points, 3: B team, 43 points, 4: E team, 34 points, 5. The D and A learns were equal on points, but the D team, who recorded the fastest time, were awarded the competition. Total swimming times were:—D team, 1.35: A team, 4.43; C team, 5.4; B team, 5.20; E team, 5.34.
