Society’s Annual Report A financial membership of 30 playing and six associate members is shown ii> the annual report of the Wellington Orchestral Society io be presented at the annual meeting this evening. This .n--ehestra was formed at the beginning of last vein. with the object of introducing inexperienced players to orchestral training and thus providing a means of 'urproach to the major orchestras of the citv. During the year regular weekly rehearsals were held, the society being fortunate in securing free of charge a practice room in the Wellington Gas Company's Building. Courtenay Place. The attendance at these rehearsals was excellent.
The major work during the year was the Haydn Symphony No. 6. “The Surprise.” The other chief work of importance was tlie Coleridge Taylor "Petit Suite de Concert.” The financial report shows a credit balance of £3/3/11, this including a donation of £l/1/- from Mrs. Meier to form a music fund. The activities for the year were brought to a close by a social gathering of members, when Ihe conductor. Mr. Erie Meier, expressed satisfaction with the work dune during the year.
