MILK PRICES FIXED

City’s Winter Supplies INCREASE IN SALES Tiie selling prices of milk and cream in Wellington for the coming winter season, to take effect from April 19, were fixed as follows by the City Council last evening, on the recommendation of the milk committee:— Milk, retailed in bottles, ssd. per quart; wholesale in bulk, 1/6 per gallon. Cream, retailed in bottles, 1-pint 7d., i-pint 1/-. one pint 2/-; wholesale in bulk, 13/8 per gallon. The milk committee reported that the milk sales for February averaged 4976 gallons daily, this being 2.71 per cent, in excess of the sales for the corresponding month last year. By the same comparison cream sales showed an increase of 18.41 per cent. Cr. M. F. Luckie, acting-chairman of the milk committee, said the committee would be glad, in view of innuendoes which had formerly been cast, if publicity were given to the fact that during the past month 10,591 gallons of milk were purchased by 57 nearby farmers. They were getting this milk from the council owing to shortage in their own supplies. Cr. C. H. Chapman said he presumed that the consumers did not know they were being supplied by nearby farmers with council milk. He thought the nearby farmers might explain that.
